How to Write Social Media Copy with ChatGPT
Introduction
Writing posts for social media is one of the most common use cases for ChatGPT, but a lot of people struggle with writing prompts that get consistently good outputs. They end up either trying a million different prompts or having very long conversations with ChatGPT, and I don't think that's fun. I'd rather talk to humans than talk to a bot.
The CIDI Framework
In this lesson, I'm going to show you how to use the CIDI framework, which I explained in another lesson. If you haven't watched it, check out the link below. This framework will help you write prompts that always give you consistently good social media post copy. Make sure you stay until the end because I'm going to show you two pro tricks. One is about how to reuse prompts multiple times, and the other is about how to replicate the tone of voice that you really need.
Practical Example: Creating a LinkedIn Post
First of all, I am using GPT 3.5, the free version of ChatGPT, and this is because I want to show you that this prompt is going to give you great results even if you're not paying. The CIDI framework includes four parts: context, instructions, details, and input.
Let's get started. Suppose I want to write a post for LinkedIn for my own personal account. In this case, the context would be: act as a professional social media copywriter expert in LinkedIn copywriting. You work for Gianluca Mauro, an AI expert with 10 years of experience in AI who has founded the AI Academy. This tells ChatGPT not only how I want it to behave, like a social media copywriter, but also the context of who it is working for, who it is writing for.
Now let's get to the instructions. Remember, you need to be assertive. This is going to help ChatGPT understand better what it's supposed to provide. I will give you a message that Gianluca wants to write about. You will provide the copy to communicate the message on LinkedIn. Notice how I'm not only very assertive saying this is what I'm going to give you, this is what you're going to give me, but also explaining exactly the task at hand.
Next, the details. This is where you can really fine-tune what you want ChatGPT to include. For example, use a professional but friendly tone, include a call-to-action at the end, and make sure the post is engaging and informative.
Finally, the input. This is the actual content you want to be turned into a social media post. For example, Gianluca wants to share that he will be speaking at an upcoming AI conference in Berlin. He is excited about the opportunity and wants to invite his followers to attend.
Putting it all together, the prompt would look like this: "Act as a professional social media copywriter expert in LinkedIn copywriting. You work for Gianluca Mauro, an AI expert with 10 years of experience in AI who has founded the AI Academy. I will give you a message that Gianluca wants to write about. You will provide the copy to communicate the message on LinkedIn. Use a professional but friendly tone, include a call-to-action at the end, and make sure the post is engaging and informative. Gianluca wants to share that he will be speaking at an upcoming AI conference in Berlin. He is excited about the opportunity and wants to invite his followers to attend."
Pro Tricks
This structured approach ensures that you get high-quality outputs that are tailored to your specific needs. And now for the pro tricks.
The first trick is about how to reuse prompts multiple times. Once you have a good prompt structure, you can adapt it to different contexts and messages, saving you time and effort. Simply change the input part of the prompt while keeping the context, instructions, and details the same.
The second trick is about replicating the tone of voice that you really need. To do this, you can provide ChatGPT with examples of the tone of voice you want to achieve. For instance, if you want a more formal tone, include a sample of a formal post. If you want a friendly tone, provide a friendly post as a reference.
Conclusion
By using these pro tricks, you can make sure your social media posts always sound just right and convey the message you intend. In the next lesson, I'm going to show you how to do something even more complex, which is to write an entire essay. This can be applied to writing any sort of long document, from an essay to a business plan to even a book. So let's deep dive in the next lesson.
